J.T., an Appendix Quarter Horse

JT is an Appendix Quarter Horse (Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred cross) who was foaled in the summer of 1990. He was originally trained to cut cattle, but poor JT was afraid of them! So when he was about 9 he was sold to a young lady in the Indianapolis area. She retrained him for english riding, dressage, and eventing. (Eventing is comprised of dressage, stadium jumping, and cross-country jumping.) During the summer of 2002 he came up lame and after many tests, x-rays, and ultrasounds it was determined that he had hyperextended a suspensory ligament on his left side. He was stabled, rested, and wrapped for several weeks, followed by some time being restricted to a small paddock where he would not encounter any rough terrain. Each time his owner tried to gradually put him back to work, he would come up lame again. Slowly it became apparent that JT would most likely never be able to be a show horse again. In the summer of 2003, not wanting to just sell him and eventually lose track of him, JT's owner looked online for places to retire him. She found Grateful Acres and decided that it would be the perfect place for him to rest and be happy.

JT now lives happily ever after at Grateful Acres and is being sponsored and loved by our webmaster.
