Stories with Happy Endings
Ending up at Grateful Acres for the rest of your life is a happy enough ending to any animal's story, but some of our rescues have had particularly happy endings to their stories.
Captain was a blue-eyed paint stallion rescued the day before he was due to be sent to the Shipshewana Livestock Auction! He went to live with Sue and Charlie and now spends his time in his own paddock with "Blake", a big white goat from Grateful Acres, to keep him company.
Winona was Grateful Acres' $20 pony from the Shipshewana Livestock Auction. She was adopted by a young lady and now lives at an 80-acre farm, where she is now a companion to another young pony. Lio was Grateful Acres' first Shipshewana rescue. He was saved from the meat man when he was only about 6 months old. Safe at Grateful Acres, Lio grew into a majestic and awe-inspiring (and very big!) horse. He was adopted in May of 2004 by a farm where he now has a job pulling things.
